Sony Ericsson's R&D center has obviously been making significant progress with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Xperia lineup, as the company is now ready to talk specific dates.

A post on the company's blog has pledged a start of the updating process for the Xperia smartphones to the latest Android version at the discontinue of March/early April 2012. The first batch of Sony Ericsson phones to acquire a taste of ICS includes Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray.

The update rollout for the second wave will start from the discontinue April or the start of May 2012. At that point the other seven Xperia smartphones eligible for an update will start getting in - Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active. The only non-Xperia Sony Ericsson to acquire an ICS update, Live with Walkman will also join this second group.

And don't worry, Sony Ericsson will create sure that you will be properly notified when the time to update your phone comes.
